Summer Student - Quality Control Inspector
The term for summer student employment will be approximately May until end of August/early September. Summer wage is $18.00 per hour. Applicants must be able to work rotating shifts (see bottom of posting).
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Quality Supervisor, the Quality Control Inspector is responsible for performing and documenting quality inspections and tests and reporting quality issues to the Production and Quality Supervisors. This position works closely with production to effectively communicate (oral and written) problems to maximize quality and minimize the effects of poor quality. Specifically:
- Inspection and testing of production samples based on established inspection plans and procedures
- Report non-conforming product to production operators and Quality and Production supervisors (oral and written). Change inventory status of non-conforming material to prevent its unintended use.
- Inspect products from raw material, customer returns and hold material if required
- Perform additional testing such as air monitoring, temperature and humidity monitoring, ozone testing, etc., and report issues to Production and Quality supervisors.
- Inspect Trial products based on R&D requirements
- Perform and document calibration and verification of inspection and test equipment based on established schedule and standard operating procedures
- Receive direction from Production Supervisors and report to this position as required during off shifts
- Perform duties and responsibilities in compliance with established safety procedures and policies
- Develop and revise standard operating procedures and forms as directed by Quality Supervisor
- Training of other Quality Control Inspectors as required
- Assist Quality Technicians as directed by Quality Supervisor
- Complete, process and file inspection and testing reports
- Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within the department and Company
- Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO 9001 and SQF standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in either a Biochemical or Quality Control course.
- One to two years’ experience in a laboratory manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of personal computers, preferably in a Windows environment.
- Accurate report writing and good communication skills.
- Knowledge of WHMIS.
- Familiar with hand micrometer, gas chromatograph, microscope, scale, layer gauge, and tensile testers.
Post-secondary education in either a Biochemical or Quality Control course.
- Familiar with calibration program, process auditing, SPC techniques
- Willing to work rotating shifts (see bottom of posting)
- Able to work within tight deadlines and work under minimal supervision.
- Possess analytical ability and demonstrated judgment and decisiveness.
- Other combinations of education, experience, knowledge, and skills will be considered.
Must be available to work day shifts 7am-3pm, night shifts 11pm-7am, afternoon shifts 3pm-11am, and some weekends. Shifts rotate every week.
