Summer Student -ABI:

The term for summer student employment will be approximately May until end of August. Summer wage is $18.00 per hour. Applicants must be able to work rotating shifts (see schedule at bottom of posting). 


POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Supervisor/Leadhand and under direction of the Operator, the Assistant will assist with the safe and effective operation of manufacturing equipment in their assigned department. Responsibilities include ensuring that established production targets related to product quality, output, and waste are consistently achieved.  

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with both the simple and regular routine maintenance of the equipment under the direction of the Operators or Supervisor. 
  • Conduct routine safety, quality, and housekeeping checks as outlined by the Company.
  • Ensure all department documentation and paperwork is completed correctly. 
  • Operate forklift equipment and material handling equipment when required.
  • Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within the department and Company.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO 9001 standards and the SQF Code.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous related work experience preferred.
  • Good aptitude for machines; ability to learn and work with machinery.
  • Experience with hand tools, including tape measures.
  • Dependable and able to work rotating shifts (8 or 12 hour shift rotations).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with minimal supervision. 
  • Must be able to work entire summer term from May to end of August. 

The following departments work 12 hour shift rotations: ABI Production
Sample shift schedule is as follows:
Week 1 - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 8:00-20:00 (days)
Week 2 - Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday from 20:00-8:00 (nights)
Week 3 - Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 8:00-20:00 (days)
Week 4 - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 20:00-8:00 (nights)
Week 5 - Repeat rotation starting at week 1
