Winpak Ltd. a public company, operates ten production facilities in Canada, the United States and Mexico, with its head office located in Winnipeg. Continued growth in sales has positioned the Company as one of the leaders in North American market for the supply of flexible and rigid plastic packaging. Winpak's location in Winnipeg, Manitoba is currently searching to fill the position of: Slitting Assistant.

Position Objective:
Reporting to the Operator I or the Shift Supervisor/Lead Hand, the Assistance must assist in the safe operation of the slitter or operate the doctoring machine such that the product quality, kilogram/hour outputs, and percentage scrap standards are maintained.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Assist the Operator with the preparation of orders for the shift to minimize the amount of non-productive time and production scrap.
-Assist the Operator with the running of the slitter with the emphasis placed on the material handling/packaging aspects associated with operating the machine.
-Operate the doctoring machine in a safe and effective manner.
-Assist with both simple and regular routine maintenance of the slitters.
-Maintain housekeeping at a level as outlined by the Company.
-Assist in the training of new employees to ensure they are aware of the safe operation of all equipment within the department.
-Ensure all packaging equipment is used in a safe and effective manner.
-Ensure all paperwork and line reporting is completed correctly.
-Operate forklift equipment when required.
-Perform special projects as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.
-Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within the department and Company.  Interact with all levels of the operation in support of Winpak’s TQI program.
-Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO9001 and SQF 2000 standards.
-Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
-Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
-Good aptitude for machines.
-Able to follow instruction with minimal supervision.
-Legible handwriting.
-Dependable and able to work rotating shifts.
-Willing to work in a team environment.
-Other combinations of education, experience, knowledge, and skills will be considered.
