Shipping Summer Student
SHIPPING SUMMER STUDENT:
The term for summer student employment will be approximately May until end of August. Summer wage is $18.00 per hour. Applicants must be able to work rotating shifts (see schedule at bottom of posting)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Supervisor/Leadhand and under direction of the Operator, the Shipping Summer Student is responsible for the safe and effective use of all warehouse equipment which will be required to be used to carry out key distribution functions.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with both the simple and regular routine maintenance of the equipment under the direction of the Operators or Supervisor.
- Conduct routine safety, quality and housekeeping checks as outlined by the Company.
- Ensure all department documentation and paperwork is completed correctly.
- Operate forklift equipment and material handling equipment when required.
Computerized inventory entry.
- Stage pallets to be shipped, pick orders, attach labeled stretch wrap pallets, weigh materials.
- Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within the department and Company. Interact with all levels of the operation in support of process improvement activities.
- Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO 9001 standards and the SQF Code.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous related work experience preferred.
- Good aptitude for machines; ability to learn and work with machinery.
- Experience with hand tools, including tape measures.
- Dependable and able to work rotating shifts (8 hour shift rotations).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work entire summer term from May to end of August.
The following departments work 8 hour shift rotations: Shipping.
Sample shift schedule is as follows:
Week 1 - Monday to Friday 7:00 - 3:00 (days)
Week 2 - Monday to Friday 23:00 - 7:00 (nights)
Week 3 - Monday to Friday 3:00 - 23:00 (afternoons)
Week 4 - Repeat rotation starting at week 1
