Saw Operator - Southern CA

Summary: 

The Saw Operator is responsible for cutting and issuing raw material from engineering blue prints by operating Band-Saw, Horizontal Saw, Panel Saw, Table saw and Chop Saw.

Education: High School Graduate or GED Preferred
Experience: Minimum of 2 years working in a manufacturing/machine shop environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  •  Ability to read, interpret engineering blueprints.
  • Basic skills in computer and Microsoft applications. (Knowledge of Avante ERP system a plus)
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job tasks and requirements.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of raw materials including various metals and plastics.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds multiple times during work shift..
  • Basic knowledge using various measuring devices including calipers and measuring tape.
  • Skilled in judgment and decision making by considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Must be able to operate forklift.
  • Basic reading, writing, arithmetic skills required.
  • Ability to speak to others to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Sets-up and operates all saw machines in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Mounts material in machine and cuts raw material specified from work orders and blueprints.
  • Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of finished product.
  • Receives all raw material inventory into Avante system and places the material in the appropriate bin locations on the day of receipt.
  • Maintains material in bin locations in an organized manner.
  • Responsible for issuing material immediately upon completion of saw operation to corresponding work orders, including any material changes or substitutions.
  • Evaluates all remnant raw material for usage and correctly dispositions following each completed job.
  • Removes cut material from machine and moves it to machine shop department.
  • Maintains area, keeping it clean, organized, orderly and safe.
  • Verifies dimensions of finished workpiece, using measuring devices.
  • Immediately notifies the receiving clerk of any discrepancies or defects in new material receipts.
  • Adheres to all safety processes and policies.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be able to walk, sit and stand. The employee occasionally lifts between 50 - 75 lbs., and occasionally kneels and bends. Should have the ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing. The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). The employee will perform physical work a minimum of  90% of work day.

Work Environment:

The manufacturing environment is subject to moderate changes in temperature and the employee will be exposed to typical hazards of noise, flying debris, and overhead hazards the use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
