Quality Improvement Engineer
POSITION SUMMARY:
Analyze collected data on the product, the process, and work
methods utilizing various measuring devices and techniques to provide input to
Production and Process to ensure high quality production of customer
parts. Analyze weekly and monthly quality
and production data to identify sources of variance to budget and opportunities
to improve. Schedule and lead monthly
problem solving sessions. Charter, train
and lead improvement teams and Kaizen events to achieve strategic improvements.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review and analyze past quality difficulties and the
preventative actions associated with them to determine effectiveness.
Analyze SPC data daily for input accuracy and statistically.
Train manufacturing personnel in SPC, parts inspection,
parts measurement, and documentation.
Perform administrative duties including training
documentation, calibration schedules, internal ISO audit schedules, etc.
Analyze to determine root cause of manufacturing
variances:
Reconcile manufacturing orders for actual versus planned
performance of resources including materials, labor, machine hours, etc.;
Facilitate cross-functional analysis of variances to include
input from Production/Process, Maintenance, Accounting, etc.;
Develop benchmarks and make recommendations to optimize
reporting accuracy and timeliness.
Identify key opportunities for operational improvement in
the areas of:
Safety;
Process and product quality;
Efficiency and cost reduction;
Staffing efficiencies;
Material flow and storage/staging.
Schedule and lead regular problem solving sessions utilizing
various problem solving techniques.
Train salaried and hourly personnel in problem solving tools and
techniques.
Raise the level of awareness for lean manufacturing and continuous
improvement. Conduct employee training
on Lean concepts as required by business needs.
Charter and lead Kaizen improvement events to achieve annual
improvement targets, operating budgets, and year-over-year productivity
improvements.
Oversee the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the
SQF System, including the GMP’s, and the food safety plans.
Monitor and maintain measuring systems to ensure optimal
performance. Measuring instruments include Coordinate Measuring
Machine, Microscope, Optical Comparator, Force Measurement, Spectrophotometer,
and hand gages.
Have an understanding of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacture of
Food Packaging and the requirements to implement and maintain SQF System
relevant to food sector category 27.
Responsible for verification and validation of the SQF
system.
Serve as the SQF Site Practitioner.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
In the incumbents absence these responsibilities will be
transferred to the Plant QA Manager.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be trained in
and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs,
chemical control and food plans and policies.
Proficient in statistical
data analysis
Excellent computer skills including MS Office and MRP/ERP
systems
Motivated self-starter that can identify opportunities and
be pro-active in developing and implementing solutions;
Strong analytical skills
Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and
quality responsibilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Five-plus years experience in a manufacturing environment
with familiarity of operations management.
Experience with quality audits as both auditee and auditor.
Experience with lean production systems, leading Kaizen events
and problem solving sessions is preferred.
Good communication, computer proficiency, problem solving
skills, and the ability to work in a 'team' environment, is essential.
Bachelor’s degree
