Quality and Food Safety Manager

Job Description
Under the guidance of the General Manager - Die Cut lidding, the incumbent is responsible for all operational aspects of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) of the Pekin Plant. Ensuring that both programs are compliant to legal or other requirements and safe quality food standards. Interfaces with inspectors, auditors and customers and interprets and clarifies Federal, State or Local laws and/or regulations to determine the regulatory impact upon manufactured products. Maintains a document control program that outlines processes to ensure a safe quality food product.

Responsibilities         
Ensure that all plant documentation and testing methods issued, approved and implemented; are accurate and in compliance with ISO9001, GMP, GLP, HACCP and Food Safety requirements and any other applicable legal and other requirements;
Responsible for ensuring that training on SOPs, procedures, work instructions and testing methods is documented and signed by employees prior to implementation.
Responsible for the CAPA program and responding to customer complaints and ensuring that complaints are investigated, probable cause identified, corrective actions determined, and   preventive   actions   implemented   within planned timelines.
Responsible for leading 3rd party audits, customer audits, and regulatory audits and ensures that corrective/preventive actions are completed within planned timelines.
Ensure that the Safe Quality Foods program contains;
Requirements of SQF and ISO9001 or equivalent
Quality Control;
HACCP plan;
Product Recall and Traceability program;
Change Control
Auditing and Inspection;
Microbiological and Pest Control Program
Responsible for site internal audit program and coordinates with operational units in the design, development and implementation of more effective audit systems;
Develop, maintain, and report to management, monthly and quarterly key performance indicators;
Develops and implements an annual GMP and Food Safety training for plant employees;
Interprets and clarifies Federal, State or Local laws and/or regulations to determine the regulatory impact upon manufactured products;
Responsible for representing Quality in meetings and making appropriate decisions on all items affecting Product Quality;
Participate in interviewing and selection of candidates, employee development mentoring, coaching and counseling;
Responsible for understanding and following the Health & Safety policy and familiarize themselves with the hazardous characteristics of chemical materials in their areas through the review of Safety Data Sheets (SOS) provided by the company.
Responsible for being the site's Site SQF Practitioner.
Execute all other duties and projects that are assigned by the General Manager - Die Cutting.

Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Science plus 7 to 10 years of related experience, including five years in flexible packaging manufacturing or the food industry and at least 5 to 10 years management experience in quality. Pharmaceutical experience would be an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

Ability to access areas of the facility needed to effectively perform the essential functions of the job.
Takes accountability and responsibility for results and ensures the work is successfully completed.
