Production Planner

Position Objective:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Production Control, the Planner is responsible to plan weekly schedules and/or assess future demand/supply projections to effectively utilize plant capacity.  He/she is also expected to plan sales orders; and release work orders in a timely and orderly fashion as per the schedule to ensure minimal interruptions to all work centres. The Planner will ensure customer satisfaction in accordance with Winpak standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Creation and adjustment of new item requests according to Winpak standards and specifications with the emphasis on the use of an optimal Bill of Material and product routing.
Review Mo comments to ensure uniformity with item requests.
Liaise with operations to ensure all required documentation and equipment specifications are accurate and up-to-date.
Purge the system of obsolete items and preform periodic audits of new items to eliminate errors.
Generate Cognos reports for use in Planning
Create alternate BOM’s and routings for off-standard running conditions.
Plan custom orders, and work towards achieving a completion date that meets our internal and external customer expectations.
Ensure all required documentation is accurate, indicate what materials are to be used, what materials are to be produced, and clearly note any necessary special instructions required.
Allocate demand to the appropriate work centers to ensure that we achieve optimum efficiency, lead-time and on-time delivery.
Coordinate with Marketing to ensure that we continually look at methods to reduce aged inventory and increase our inventory turn ratio.
Pinpoint bottleneck resources and adjust schedules accordingly.
Sequence the week’s workload in a fashion that maximizes productivity, efficiency, and work centre utilization.
Monitor and maintain daily schedules to ensure on-time delivery.


You are a outgoing professional who is enthusiastic, flexible and open to change and willing to learn our business. Must be organized and detail oriented, able to get the job done correctly in a faced paced environment. We are looking for someone with above average interpersonal and communication skills who can provide the highest level of customer service to clients and outside parties and interact with multiple levels within an organization. Must be a motivated self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision and within strict deadlines

Grade 12 diploma or equivalent. 
Post-secondary education and/or CPIM/APICS are an asset.
1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a basic understanding of inventory and the scheduling process.  Previous related scheduling experience is preferred.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel.
Other combinations of education, experience, knowledge, and skills will be considered.
