Process Manager Injection Molding


The Process Manager will be responsible the manufacturing launch of thin-wall in-mold-labeled injection molding. This hands-on position will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the injection molding department. In this role, the successful candidate will coordinate the development of new injection molding processes including defined process recipes for each product line. The Process Manager will actively partner with the Corporate Engineering department in the design and review of new and existing IML products, with the focus centered on thin wall food packaging.



Understands, follows, and enforces all established safety, health, quality GMP and Company policies, procedures and recognized practices.

Facilitate completion of identified departmental goals. 

Manage departmental expense spending within prescribed budgets.

Perform administrative duties including performance reviews, attendance calendars, time cards, disciplinary actions, training documentation, etc.

Manage the process commercialization of all new IML products, establish process recipes, while evaluating existing quality specifications to ensure their efficient and repeatable during manufacturing.

To maintain and update all process conditions.

Provide a leadership role in the specification, selection and commissioning of new injection molding and IML automation cells.

Conduct the scale up development of new products, establishing optimal process parameters and controls with the objective of achieving product quality, uniformity and optimum production efficiencies.

To establish forming and process settings on all DOE’s.

Provide design input to the Engineering team to help improve first pass yield and overall tooling efficiencies.

Perform molding machine startups and correct non-conformances using scientific molding and root-cause analysis techniques.

Perform mold changes and IML line startups, shutdowns, and label change overs.

Troubleshoot molding problems such as flash, short shots, dimensional issues, etc.

Responsible for the training and development of the machine operating staff.

Identify knowledge/skill gaps of the operators and other molding personnel and develop training plans to eliminate these gaps (utilize internal or external training resources).

Coordinates and oversees all resin and color samplings.

Evaluates prototype tooling and new mold start-ups, coordinating activities with the Corporate Engineering department.

Analyzes cycle times, machine set ups, equipment handling or product & raw materials mixing equipment making appropriate recommendations for overall improvements.

To respond appropriately and on a timely basis to process, machine and equipment problems to reduce downtime and increase productivity. 

To communicate relevant information to Production Management so the realistic manpower requirements and work schedules are established.

Promote a continuous improvement culture.

To utilize management philosophies of ISO, AIB, SPC, and project team approach in all aspects of job-related activities.

Give breaks to department staff as required.

Overall operation of line and packing of product as needed.

Develop and document written procedures for the operation of the IML department.

Responsible for investigating and resolving any food packaging safety problems identified and reported by other employees and also responsible for notifying plant management of same.

Responsible for ensuring that all employees follow company GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs chemical control and food safety plans and policies.

May be responsible for special projects related to other functional areas.



Thorough knowledge of IML automation, including end of arm tooling, vision systems, and parts handling and stacking equipment.

Thorough understanding of injection tooling components and hot runner system design.

Extensive thin wall food packaging processing experience.

Stack mold processing experience.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to multitask and make independent decision.

Strong computer skills in MS Office and experience in MRP/ERP systems.

Competency in the operation of IML automation equipment and process technologies.

Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and quality responsibilities.

Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs, chemical control and food safety plans and policies.

Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and quality responsibilities.



Mechanical Ability

Minimum of 10 years of injection molding processing experience with hi-speed equipment.

Minimum of 5 years in the manufacture of thin-wall IML packaging.

IML stack mold processing experience required.

Bachelor of Science Technical Degree preferred. Work related experience will be considered. A high school diploma is required.
