Mechanical Engineer

Summary:  
The focus of the Mechanical Engineer is to support mechanical design of automation machinery for the liquid packaging industry.   
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution.
Experience:
5+ years in mechanical design
Experience within a food packaging machinery manufacturer is strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of engineering disciplines in the areas of mechanical, pneumatic, structural, thermal, and fluid.
Knowledge of the food packaging machinery, automation and Clean In Place (CIP) technology is strongly preferred.
Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks CAD and the ability to design, generate and interpret Engineering drawings and schematics. 
Additional knowledge in Autodesk products AutoCAD and Inventor is preferred.
Familiar working within a Product Data Management System (PDM) for configuration management, as well as with document change control processes.
Strong mechanical aptitude with proven ability to solve complex problems and provide robust solutions.
Knowledgeable in material selection, tolerance stackup analysis, ASME 14.1 dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards, and application of best engineering practices. 
Strong project planning and organizational skills. 
Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced cross-functional manufacturing organization, multi-task and balance priorities.
Creative, independent, detailed oriented, and hands-on with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Highly accountable to self and others, drives closure of tasks and completes quality work on time.
Disciplined in Concurrent and Value Engineering methodologies in design for cost, manufacturability, assembly and service.
Ability to easily communicate technical matters to audiences of varying technical skills both internally and with customers.
Knowledge of MS Office applications including WORD, Excel, Power Point, Access and Visio.
Knowledge of PLC and HMI programming is a plus.
Familiar desining to various agency standards like IEC, UL, CE, EN, CSA, EU, FDA (CFR Title 21), 3-A Sanitary Standards, OSHA, NEMA, etc.
Basic understanding of the concepts of FMEA, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for mechanical design and development of parts and assemblies for new machines and sustaining engineering.
Generates detailed manufacturing drawings, schematics, diagrams and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Interprets Sales/Customer machine specifications and builds the required engineering design specification, identifying existing parts/assemblies that conform, and new parts/assemblies to be created.
Performs various functions as applicable to the design, including material selection, and analysis such as structural, thermal, flow, and tolerance stackup. 
Consults and works with system, mechanical and electrical/controls engineers and programmers to ensure designs produced are optimized for safety, performance, cost, schedule, manufacturability and service.
Develops test setups and conducts testing in support of part/assembly design validation.  Generates test procedures and reports.
Supports machine system and subsystem hazard and risk assessments.
Provides mechanical engineering support to Sales, Procurement, Fabrication, Assembly, Finance, Quality and Field Service teams, as required.
Conducts and participates in design reviews with both internal and external customers.
Supports technical content in the generation of machine manuals and other engineering technical documentation.
Supports the development of new automation and mechanical system technologies.
Acts as a backup for document control functions. 
Assist other engineers and designers as needed.
Travel to vendor or customer sites to provide mechanical engineering support, as required.
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
