Health, Safety & Environment Coordinator

Winpak Portion Packaging Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of quality rigid plastic packaging for the food and beverage industry, located in the northwest area of Toronto.  Winpak operates a busy, unionized facility working 24 hours, 5 days per week.   We are proud to be a zero landfill facility, SQF and IMS Certified.  We are also ISO 9001-2008 registered. We are currently looking for an experienced Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Senior HS&E Manager, with day to day direction from the Plant Manager, the Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing health, safety and environmental support to the Company and employees.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintains, develops, updates and implements the written plant safety program elements to ensure that a healthy and safe work environment is provided.
  • Identifies, develops, coordinates and conducts safety training and programs in compliance with all legislation and various safety programs and initiatives.
  • Maintains all required health, safety and environmental records and documentation.
  • Administers the employee Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims.
  • Coordinates incident and accident investigations.
  • Manages the Early and Safe Return to Work Program (Modified Work Program).
  • Conducts hazard analysis and risk assessments, as required.
  • Manages the plant WHMIS Program.
  • Participates in pre-starts including process hazard analysis, operator training, etc.
  • Develops, implements and monitors compliance with policies and procedures related to facility environmental issues (air, water, land, radiation, hazardous waste, 3 Rs).

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary diploma in OH&S
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar position
  • Strong knowledge of WSIB, Human Rights legislation and disability management
  • Knowledgeable in risk assessment, safety, hygiene and environmental issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Computer skills in all Microsoft applications
  • Experience in a unionized facility preferred
  • Experience in food packaging or food industry preferred
