Director of Finance and Administration


For the purposes of financial control and accountability, this position reports to both the President, Winpak Portion Packaging and the Vice President and CFO, Winpak LTD. On a day-to-day basis, the position is directly accountable to the BU President for the performance of all responsibilities related to financial management and administration and the management of information systems.

The Director of Finance and Administration directs and oversees all the financial activities of the Business Unit (BU) and the information systems department. Direct responsibilities include:
Accurate and timely preparation of financial reports, summaries, forecasts, and general outlooks.
Development and execution of financial and administrative objectives, policies, programs, and practices, to ensure the BU of a continuously sound financial structure.
Monitoring of cash flows to ensure the availability of funds.
Monitors and maintains control over other valuable documents.
Responsible for all financial systems, internal controls, and financial reporting.
Oversees all operational accounting aspects, including accounts payable, general ledger, and financial reporting.


As part of Winpak Portion Packaging’s Advisory Committee, is responsible for the Business Unit’s finance, accounting, and management information systems functions.
Establish and maintain appropriate policies and procedures of internal control to protect the assets of the business unit and comply with the Corporate Accounting Policy Manual.
Coordinate external and internal audits of the business unit.
Directs the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, statements of cash flows, reports to shareholders, tax returns and reports for government regulatory agencies.
Responsible for ensuring ethical and fiduciary controls are implemented, as it relates to the Company’s financial transactions and reporting.
Oversee the preparation of quarterly operating reports in the areas of accounting and finance to the Board of Directors.
Oversee the preparation of detailed analysis and summaries for completion of income tax returns by external tax advisors.
Responsible for local banking relations and liaison with Corporate Cash Management.
Prepare the annual capital and operating budgets.
Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with the published reporting schedule.
Analyze and prepare monthly report on financial statements, explaining variances from budget and prior year.
Responsible for the costing system, including establishment of standards, accumulation of actual costs and analysis, and explanation of variances.
Responsible for the general insurance and workers compensation insurance programs.
Administrator of both the 401K plan and defined benefit Pension Plan for Winpak Portion Packaging, Winpak Heat Seal, Winpak Lane, and Winpak Control Group.
Liaison for insurance claims within the business unit
Accumulation and reporting of data for annual renewals of insurance coverages.
Liaison with Corporate Office.
Analyze and prepare cost justification on capital acquisition proposals.
Responsible for cash management and reporting for the business unit.
Responsible for inventory management and control, including physical inventories and maintenance of appropriate inventory levels.
Check signing authority.
Responsible for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activities.
Responsible for the business unit corporate filings and records.
Ensure activities/needs of the business unit are identified and oversee the operation of the Company’s management information systems.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities for the finance, accounting, and management information systems department in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Ensure that the assets of the Company are effectively safeguarded.
Develop policies and procedures promoting the effective reporting of Company operational and financial performance.
Assist in financial planning, control, and analysis to develop processes to improve both operational and financial performance.
Performs other duties as assigned.  


6+ years’ experience in a computerize manufacturing environment, with minimum of 3 years of experience as a Controller. Background in Audit desirable.
Working knowledge of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles are required. Must understand all functional areas of the department including cost and general accounting, credit management, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
Strong analytical skills balanced by interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational savvy
Ability and willingness to work longer hours when situations demand it.
Must be able to effectively communicate, report, and explain financial and operational results, to all levels of management, as a matter of financial business decision support.
Understands and uses lean principles to eliminate waste and reduce the overall cost of doing business, by driving improvements in the efficiency of systems and processes throughout the organization.


Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. M.B.A. and/or CPA strongly preferred
Languages: English as primary
High proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, COGNOS, DUNDAS and/or other similar reporting tools required
