Development Technologist


Support product development, data generation, product stewardship and regulatory compliance functions


Conduct sheet and container analysis as required for the development effort.
Conduct barrier and physical property testing on sheet and thermoformed containers as needed or requested.
Analyze competitive products.
Coordinate external testing of intermediate and finished products, e.g., setting up the test, log and ship samples for testing and data compilation.
Support regulatory compliance and registration of WPP products. Prepare applications and maintain documentation.
Secure MSDS, Technical data sheets and regulatory compliance documents from vendors
Assist in the maintenance of material data base.
Support product stewardship by preparing and forwarding regulatory, safety and performance data sheets to WPP customers when requested.
Support manufacturing and Plant quality functions if needed.
Maintain safe work environment and follow Winpak Safety regulations.
Responsible for reporting food packaging safety problems to plant management
Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
In the incumbent’s absence these responsibilities will be transferred to the Principal Engineer Process Development.

Position Requirements:

Ability to operate laboratory instruments, i.e., Microscope, Hot stage, tensile and puncture testing machines.
Ability to mount samples, set up test, compile data and prepare reports for barrier testing.
Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs, chemical control and food safety plans and policies.
Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and quality responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

College Associates degree with science major.
1 to 2 year or work experience in a similar work environment.
Proficient in computer skills, i.e., Excel, MS Word, and Outlook.
Skills to operate computer controlled instrumentation.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to read and comprehend raw material technical and regulatory documentation.

Physical Requirements:

Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs occasionally
Walking/standing approximately 4-6 hours per day.
Climbing stairs rarely, climbing ladders occasionally.
Bending/stooping occasionally.
Kneeling, crawling rarely.
