Continuous Improvement Engineer


Analyze weekly and monthly production data and manufacturing orders to identify sources of variance to budget and opportunities to improve line, labor and material efficiencies. Schedule and lead monthly problem solving sessions. Charter, train and lead improvement teams utilizing both lean and innovation engineering tools in order to achieve strategic improvements.


• Become proficient in utilizing the corporate ERP to compare manufacturing performance against established production standards to identify sources of manufacturing variances.
• Analyze to determine root cause of manufacturing variances:
o Reconcile manufacturing orders for actual versus planned performance of resources including materials, labor, machine hours, etc.;
o Facilitate cross-functional analysis of variances to include input from Production/Process, Maintenance, Accounting, etc.;
o Develop process benchmarks and make recommendations to optimize reporting accuracy and timeliness.
• Schedule and lead monthly problem solving sessions utilizing various problem solving techniques. Train salaried and hourly personnel in problem solving tools and techniques. Develop, track, and close out weekly problem solving projects and monthly A-3s.
• Raise the level of awareness for lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and innovation engineering. Conduct employee training on both lean and innovation engineering concepts as required by business needs.
• Identify key opportunities for operational improvement in the areas of:
o Safety;
o Process and product quality;
o Efficiency and cost reduction;
o Staffing efficiencies;
o Material flow and storage/staging.
• Charter and lead Kaizen improvement events to achieve annual improvement targets, operating budgets, and year-over-year productivity improvements.
• Ensure compliance with company safety rules and regulations.
• Maintain effective and productive relationships with superiors, peers, and subordinates.
• In the incumbent's absence these responsibilities will be transferred to the Plant Manager.


• Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs, chemical control and food plans and policies.
• Excellent computer skills including MS Office and MRP/ERP systems
• Motivated self-starter that can identify opportunities and be pro-active in developing and implementing solutions;
• Strong analytical skills
• Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and quality responsibilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• Five-plus years experience in a manufacturing environment with familiarity of operations management
• Experience with lean production systems, leading Kaizen events and problem solving sessions.
• Experience with innovation engineering principles and leading blue card initiatives.
• Good communication, computer proficiency, problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a 'team' environment, is essential.
• Bachelor's Degree Preferred
