Business Unit Quality Assurance Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: Business Unit Quality Assurance Manager facilitates food safety and quality management activities for WPP manufacturing processes and supports special projects including but not limited to new product development, equipment qualifications, and raw material qualifications.



  • Functional responsibility in support of all WPP plant quality functions
  • Ensure appropriate Quality Assurance measures are in place and utilized to produce products that meet internal and customer specifications.
  • Ownership of ISO, GMP, SQF/HACCP and other trade and regulatory certifications for all WPP operations. Maintain necessary documents and coordinate all audits to meet the certification requirements.
  • Manages response to customer questionnaires and surveys and facilitates preparations for customer audits. 
  • Develop familiarity of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacture of Food Packaging and the requirements to implement and maintain SQF System relevant to food sector category 27.
  • Responsible for validation and verification of SQF Systems.
  • Designated SQF Practitioner.
  • Participate as required in special projects as a statistician, DOE Manager and test procedures development.
  • Interact with technical managers and customers in order to establish product specifications.
  • Assist as needed in investigation and resolution of any food packaging safety problems.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the SQF System, including the GMP’s, and the food safety plans.
  • Responsible for developing consistent company GMP’s, sanitation and chemical control programs, and food safety plans and policies for all BU locations.
  • In the incumbent’s absence these responsibilities will be transferred to the Director of Manufacturing.
  • Assist in the training of new plant Quality Department personnel as needed. 
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as required. 



Thorough knowledge and experience in Designed Experiments and Statistical data analyses techniques.

Quality assurance training e.g. Six Sigma or equivalent methodologies

Training and experience in auditing, ie., ISO, SQF, etc.

Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation programs, chemical control and food safety plans and policies.

Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and quality responsibilities.



  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a QA managerial role in the plastics industry.  Certified ISO/SQF auditor and PCQI experience desirable. 
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an engineering discipline.
