POSITION SUMMARY:

Strategic Planning
The successful Business Development Manager will bring a technical mindset and background together with a strong business acumen and sharp analytical abilities. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for development and implementation of a strategic plan for the company’s filling equipment offerings. This body of work begins with a holistic market current situation assessment (Voice of Customer; S.W.O.T.; cost/ price/ margin/ best-cost analysis; competitive analysis; market trends; etc.).

Based a full situation assessment, the Business Development Manager will develop and propose price and product positioning strategies; product line improvement plans; technology roadmaps; oversee the execution of the developments and their commercialization.

Growth and Profitability
Above all else, the Business Development Manager must be passionate about growth and profitability improvement. The Business Development Manager will be responsible and held accountable for the profitability improvement and growth of the equipment business. These measures include Top-line sales growth; positive price/cost; manufacturing contribution margin (MC) and EBIT.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working closely with Sales Director, Inside Sales Team and Technical Services team to understand our market, product offerings, capabilities and find opportunities to strengthen our market position.
In collaboration with Operations, Scheduling, Planning, the Business Development Manager leads asset optimization initiatives (asset utilization, production rate and efficiency improvement and waste reduction).
Responsible for maintaining/optimizing existing Product offering and developing new and profitable product generations.
Supports commercial team within the relevant Market Segment (Protein, Dairy, Food, Medical), in close cooperation with the relevant Business Unit (BU), Operations and R&D.
Responsible for Product cost improvements through structure/bill of material changes; manufacturing process improvement; logistics/distribution; etc.
Responsible for managing the Product Roadmap, a strategic expression of the upcoming product development needs and market evolution.
Responsible for provision all Winpak required reporting that pertains to equipment-related activities inside and outside of the BU.
Responsible for training of any relevant personnel dealing directly or indirectly with the equipment, including delivering or preparing relevant training for clients.
Responsible for managing and coordinating new product development together with R&D from inception to commercialization including product ideation, direct testing, prototype/sampling activities, equipment launch and sales performance monitoring.
The Business Development Manager plays a critical role in pricing recommendations and controls the establishment of cost targets of the equipment and will be measured on the achievement of target margins; preparation of specification material and equipment feature sheets.
Must interface well with all relevant internal parties (Market Directors, Sales Representatives, Operations, QA, Marketing, Product Management, etc.) to represent relevant needs, opportunities, client feedback, complaints etc.
Responsible for the annual budgeting process (Product sales, price, cost, departmental spending, product development, market research, marketing communications, training, travel and entertainment).
Promotes teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within all participating Market Segments and within Winpak more broadly. Interacts with all levels of the organization.
Maintains a safe working environment and performs all duties in a safe and professional manner.

SECONDARY DUTIES:
Stays abreast of commercial and technical developments in the relevant areas of the equipment industry through established contacts (e.g. sales personnel, customers, suppliers, seminars, conferences, trade publications with focus on the Product and competitive Product offerings).
Recommends, prepares and defends the acquisition of alternate product technologies or production processes, external business models worthy of investigating, and reacts to competitive activity accordingly.
Recommends, prepares and defends improvement proposals that affect Winpak beyond the Market, whether organizational, procedural or of any kind.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred a minimum of 10 years’ experience in, preferable within the value-adding film converting and liquid processing and packaging.
Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills.

EDUCATION:
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree, preferably from within one of the following fields of study: Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Candidate must have a strong business acumen; therefore, an advanced degree (MBA) and/or additional coursework in business, management, finance is desired.
The successful candidates must have technical mind/aptitude balanced by a strong financial acumen; strong technical project management skills; outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Languages: Spanish and/or French fluency is an advantage
Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint Program

COMPETENCIES:
Proven aptitude to manage a complex set of variables and thrives in complex matrix environment. Adept at building constituency and motivates and positively influences Scientists, Technologists and Process Specialists.
Strong technical aptitude. Able to understand packaging materials, complex manufacturing processes internally and at clients in the food, pharmaceutical and medical processing industries. Good base of understanding plastics converting processes and equipment.
Exceptional project and time management skills are required.
Driven and self-motivated. Able to work independently and under time constraints.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Willing and able to get into and stay in the details until the problem is identified and properly solved.
Understanding of commercial aspects of materials, manufacturing, sales and marketing with strong business acumen.
Sound judgment and decision-making skills, organizational skills, high level of integrity and strong work ethic.
Must have the ability to facilitate the resolution of complex issues.
Ability to self-motivate, motivate others in a matrix environment and ability to deal, present and report to all levels of the organization and outside to clients.
Good listening and communication abilities, both internal and with external clients or audiences at conferences, as well as good inter-personal skills.

LOCATION:
The candidate will report into the company’s location in Rialto, CA.

Travel:
Candidates must be willing and able to travel up to 30% of the time.
