Accounting Analyst - Planning

THE POSITION:


Reporting to the Senior Accounting Analyst - Planning, the Accounting Analyst - Planning, is responsible for collecting and analyzing data from the company’s ERP system data, completing basic to moderate level financial analysis projects, and building and maintaining financial and operational reports utilizing report generation software. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain familiarity with existing information and the company’s ERP system as they relate to assigned topics - collecting and analyzing required data (eg: manufacturing variances) and updating  various financial information on an ongoing basis (eg: standard raw material input costs, inventory write-down provisions, backflush material usage); assist the Senior Accounting Analyst with the development and adaptation of new systems and procedures.
  • Assist the Senior Accounting Analyst (COGNOS Administrator) with the ongoing maintenance of the business unit’s COGNOS reporting library ; maintain an in-depth working knowledge of COGNOS reporting software such that the ability exists to compile/create moderate to complex level COGNOS reports to support both finance and operational demands.
  • Perform investigation with respect to manufacturing variance results and issue manufacturing variance reporting to operations management on a weekly basis; assist the Senior Accounting Analyst with any required adjusting journal entry preparation as required.
  • Prepare month-end journal entries (eg: manufacturing variance adjustments ).
  • Prepare quarterly standard cost updates of material inputs.
  • Prepare quarterly obsolete inventory analysis and reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts including schedule compilation, historical data population, and review of purchasing information.
  • Assist in the development, conversion, and ongoing testing of accounting and other components of the management information system as directed by the Senior Accounting Analyst.
  • Work with the Senior Accounting Analyst to develop and prepare various management reports with the goal of assisting with continuous operational improvement.
  • Undertake other special projects and/or duties assigned by the Director of Finance and Administration or the Controller.
  • Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within the department and Company.  Interact with all levels of the operation in support of Winpak’s TQI program.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) or other similar post-secondary education.
  • Enrollment in a designated accounting program would be considered an asset but is not required.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in an accounting/financial analysis capacity with preference given to candidates with previous manufacturing experience.
  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems and above average skills with respect to spreadsheet software.
  • Previous experience and strong skills utilizing report generation software (specific experience utilizing COGNOS would be considered an asset).
  • Ability to cross-train and maintain a working knowledge of the skills required to perform the duties of team members.
  • Able to deal with all levels of an organization.
  • Able to work under minimal supervision and with tight deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
