Accountant - American Biaxis Inc
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the ABI Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for various daily/monthly general accounting functions that contribute to the successful generation of the consolidated monthly financial statements and maintenance of the general ledger.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain bank reconciliations, related journal entries, and working papers.
Daily review of unposted Movex transactions and balance sheet.
Manage petty cash including payment of miscellaneous expense reports, receiving miscellaneous cash payments and balancing transactions to the general ledger.
Review accounts receivable for overdue invoices.
Advise Sojitz on invoices due on next payment.
Prepare various month-end journal entries and accruals including those surrounding freight movements, outside warehouse expenses, and pending operating expenses.
Prepare and record bi-monthly payroll journal entries, analyze payroll clearing accounts and record related intercompany invoices.
Maintain worksheets and journal entries related to inventory receipts.
Prepare monthly supplier rebate accrual template(s) and corresponding journal entries.
Prepare monthly inventory work-in-process and volume variance reconciliations along with resulting journal entries.
Prepare monthly prepaid reconciliations and amortization journal entries.
Inventory physical counts and reconciliations.
Assist in the preparation on monthly working papers and account reconciliations.
Assist in the preparation of year-end audit files.
Complete monthly/quarterly statutory filings and remittances (GST/HST, RST, QST, Ohio CAT).
Assist Controller in the preparation of various reports (eg: Stats Canada, department reviews, and analysis).
Participate in special departmental projects and perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Enrollment in a mid to advanced level (ie: 3rd level or higher) of a recognized accounting program.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an accounting environment
Computer literate: familiar with MS Word and Excel, and at ease learning new software applications.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Well organized and capable of working with a minimum of supervision in a fast-paced team environment.
